From Harpeth Hall (Melissa Smith)
"My 6th graders take their computers home and create some of the most fascinating and entertaining pieces of work. The latest project was a simple vocabulary 5 day (45 minute classes) assignment. Day 1 - students were given 14 words pulled from a novel they had finished. They used the computer and the book to find the definitions and understand the word used in context. Day 2 - The students were to create a skit to present 10 of the 14 words, using their built-in cameras, iMovie, and props. Day 3-5 Students were to polish the skits and begin filming. After this assignment the students used a rubric to grade themselves. Since this is the last year with this teacher the students also reflected on the assignment and their learning. That is what I will post because their reflections about being motivated with their learning ROCKS! I am going to use GarageBand to create a podcast of their reflections." Attached is one of the projects that a team of 3 boys created. The words they incorporated are Veldt
Exquisite, Parlor, Jaunt, Intersperse, Feverishly, Fable, Insufferable, Appalling, and crystallize. They used props, the smartboard, projector, and iMovie to create their project. The Search for the Gold
